Spreading Islamophobia, Iranophobia, Washington’s Definite Policy: Leader

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday slammed the US government for its continued hostilities toward Muslims and the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that Washington is seeking to tarnish the image of Islam, and spread Iranophobia and Shiaphobia.

“Today, Islamophobia, Iranophobia and Shiaphobia, are among the definite policies of the US and its puppet regimes,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in an address in Tehran to a gathering of Iranian people and high-ranking officials as well as Muslim countries’ envoys on the occasion of Eid al-Mab’ath, which marks the anniversary of the appointment of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to prophethood.

The Leader pointed to the US-led attempts to discredit Muslims, saying, “Today, corrupt (terrorist) groups that are committing heinous crimes in the name of Islam are supported by Western powers.”

Western countries “have purportedly formed a coalition against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), but, in fact, they are backing the group,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader added that within the framework of its Islamophobia policy, the US-led coalition calls the terrorist group “Islamic state” to damage the image of Islam.

Elsewhere, Ayatollah Khamenei described the vigilance of Muslim nations, Iranians in particular, against the hegemonic powers’ corrupt acts as the main reason behind such hostilities, saying this is the reason why Iran is threatened to be boycotted when it opposes the US policies in the Middle East.

They (the Americans) regard the Islamic Republic as a hurdle to the realization of their excessive demands in the region, the Leader went on to say.

Daesh, as a Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria, is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

The US said in September 2014 that it had created a “core coalition” to battle Daesh militants in Iraq, but it has failed to accomplish its declared mission up to now.

Daesh has been committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious groups, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi Kurds and others in Iraq, Syria and several other countries.
