Victory over Australia Was Great, Iran Captain Marouf Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national volleyball team's captain Saeid Marouf says that the they’ve earned a great victory over Australia in the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament.

Iran overpowered Australia 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) on day 1 of the tournament for Rio 2016 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

“It was a great victory for the first day. In the past we have played badly in the opening match. We had a good side-out and beat a great team today,” Marouf said.

“The biggest change with coach Raul Lozano has been in our mentality and our training schedule. His experience in three Olympic Games will help us in this tournament,” he added.

Iran is scheduled to face Canada on Sunday.

Eight strong teams are competing for the Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament from May 28 to June 5 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The qualification tournament in Tokyo, which also serves as the Asian qualification tournament, will provide the top ranked Asian team and the top three ranked teams with the four Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualification slots available.
