During the meeting, the two officials discussed Iran-Sweden bilateral ties and international developments, including crises in Western Asia and the necessity for settling them via political approaches.

Stressing the need for closer relations between Iran and Sweden in the political and economic fields, Zarif expressed hope for the Swedish premier’s visit to Tehran.

For his part, Lofven welcomed strong bilateral relations, saying he is planning a trip to Iran.

Earlier in the morning, Zarif had a meeting with the Scandinavian nations’ Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg and talked about ways to strengthen economic interaction in the post-sanctions era.

The top Iranian diplomat also attended an Iran-Sweden mercantile conference on Wednesday morning.

Travelling with a 60-strong delegation of Iranian businessmen, Zarif arrived in Sweden on Tuesday night after visits to Poland and Finland.

He is also scheduled to go to Latvia.

The European tour comes against a backdrop of international enthusiasm for enhanced ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached the agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.
