Croatian Cleric Lauds Imam Khomeini’s Role in Contemporary History

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Croatia’s Grand Mufti Aziz Hasanovic said the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran originated major developments in the Muslim world.

Addressing a huge gathering of worshippers in Zagreb on Friday, the Croatian cleric referred to the 27th anniversary of the demise of Imam Khomeini (RA), and highlighted Imam Khomeini’s influential role in the contemporary history and in originating great developments in the Muslim world.

He further pointed to his recent visit to Iran as a member of a delegation accompanying Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, saying that the trip was a turning point in his life.

Hasanovic also invited Croatian Muslims to participate in a ceremony to pay tribute to the late Imam Khomeini (RA), which was due to be held in Zagreb on Saturday.

Muslims, including Iranians, held mourning ceremonies on Friday to mark the 27th anniversary of the demise of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

Every year, large crowds of Iranians travel to Tehran from different parts of the country to pay tribute to Imam Khomeini at his shrine.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Moussavi Khomeini, better known as Imam Khomeini, engineered Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the US-backed Shah of Iran.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 87.
