Iran’s Arzandeh Qualifies for Rio Olympics 2016
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Long jump athlete Mohammad Arzandeh from Iran qualified for Rio 2016 Olympics on Sunday.
The Iranian athlete finished in second place with a jump of 8.16 meters to surpass the Olympic qualification mark by 0.01 at the XXVI International Meeting G Kosanov Memorial in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Arzandeh became Iran’s eighth athlete overall to confirm his berth for the Rio Olympics.
Indian Ankit Sharma recorded a jump of 8.17 meters and came first.
Sobhan Taherkhani, also from Iran, finished in third place with a jump of 7.90 meters.
The Rio Olympics is slated to be held from August 5 to August 21.
Furthermore, Leyla Rajabi won the gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 17.40 meters.
Iranian hammer thrower Reza Moghaddam also finished in the first place with 69.20 meters.
