Quds Day Prevents Palestinian Issue from Fading into Oblivion: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Intifada (Uprising) and Quds Center at Iran’s Islamic Propagation Coordination Counci said the international Quds day has a major influence on the issue of Palestine and prevents it from sliding into oblivion.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, Ramezan Sharif pointed to the International Quds Day, an annual event held across the world to show solidarity with Palestinians, and said that each year the Quds Day opens the case of atrocities committed by the Zionist regime of Israel and prevents the international community from forgetting them.

“The international Quds day has a very significant impact on the Palestinian issue,” the official noted, expressing the hope that rallies marking the event would be held with the massive participation of Muslims.

He further praised the Palestinian nation’s third Intifada, saying that the anti-Israeli campaign is very meaningful because Palestinian fighters are trying to make a path forward by themselves without expecting support from others.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.

Speaking in a meeting with Ramadan Abdullah, the head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, and his accompanying delegation back in May, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reiterated Iran’s commitment to providing unwavering support for Palestine.

Iran’s position on the issue of Palestine has not been and is not limited to any specific period of time, the Leader said at the time.
