Iran’s Larijani Highlights Significance of Int’l Quds Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined the importance of International Quds Day rallies, saying that massive presence of Muslims in the upcoming demonstrations across the world will display their “strong will” to help resolve the problems facing the Palestinian nation.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Larijani described International Quds Day as “a day of clarification” and said by attending rallies to mark the day, Muslims around the world would have a significant impact on the future of Palestinians.

“People’s rallies on the Quds Day will be indicative of their strong will to resolve the problems facing Palestine,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani regretted that the issue of Palestine has been overshadowed by recent crises hitting some Middle Eastern countries, adding that Israel is utilizing the atmosphere to continue its aggressions against the Palestinian nation.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.

Larijani’s remarks came as Israeli forces on Tuesday morning stormed Palestinian worshippers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem) for a third consecutive day.

The incident occurred at a time when a large number of Palestinian worshippers were performing prayers at Islam’s third-holiest site during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
