FIVB World League: Iran Beaten by Italy in Straight Sets

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national volleyball team was defeated against Italy 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21) in Tehran’s Azadi Hall on Saturday.

This is the eighth time Iran and Italy have clashed in the World League and the first time since 2014. Italy have won four of the previous seven World League meetings.

Osmany Juantorena led the Italian team with 14 points, while Shahram Mahmoudi top scored Iran with 13 points.

Raul Lozano’s team, who came back from a two sets deficit to beat Serbia 3-2 on Friday, will face Argentina on Sunday.

Iran is ninth in Group 1 with nine points and Italy sits fourth with 18 points.

The FIVB Volleyball World League is an international men's volleyball competition. Created in 1990, it is the longest and richest of all the international events organized by the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). The tournament is annual.
