Daesh Executes 24 Civilians after Seizing Village in Syria: Activists
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Daesh (also known as ISIL and ISIS) terrorist group has executed at least 24 civilians after seizing a village in northern Syria, activists said Friday.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Daesh executed 24 civilians "in the last 24 hours" after taking Buyir from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, AFP reported on Friday.
The village is located some 10 kilometers (6 miles) northwest of Manbij, a key waypoint between the Turkish border and the Daesh de facto capital of Raqa city.
Daesh seized control of several villages in the countryside northwest of Manbij since launching an assault Thursday, according to the Observatory.
The SDF, backed by airstrikes from the so-called US-led anti-Daesh coalition, launched an offensive to retake Manbij from Daesh on May 31.
The alliance managed to enter the town but have since faced fierce opposition from the terrorists who have fought back with suicide bombers and car bombs.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
