Iran Raps Bahraini FM’s Hajj Comments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman hit back at Bahraini foreign minister for accusing the Islamic Republic of politicizing the Hajj pilgrimage, recommending the Arab diplomat to stop adopting foreign-dictated policies and try to settle his own country’s internal conflicts instead.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Thursday recommended Bahrain’s Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa to avoid “one-sided” attitudes and stop taking “repetitive stances” that are dictated by the outsiders who themselves are on the wrong track in the region.

Qassemi also advise Bahrain to deal with its own internal problems and refrain from commenting on the major Muslim event without considering the death of innocent pilgrims in last year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The Iranian spokesman finally called on Al Khalifa to avoid creating rift within the Islamic world.

Addressing the Arab League Council in Cairo on Thursday, the Bahraini foreign minister had accused Iran of trying to politicize Hajj.

More than 460 Iranians were among the thousands of pilgrims who died on September 24, 2015, in a crush in Mina, near Mecca, during the Hajj pilgrimage.

The incident marked the worst ever tragedy during Hajj.
