Fearing Failure of Plans, US Seeking Talks with Iran: Shamkhani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the US is eager to initiate talks with Iran for fear of miscalculations in its regional policies, stressing that what prevents such interaction is Iran’s mistrust of the US and Washington’s support for terrorist groups.
The Americans have made frequent requests for negotiation with Iran on Middle East developments, because of the fear that their regional policies and calculations would fall flat, Ali Shamkhani said in a cultural ceremony in Tehran on Friday.
However, he added, what blocks talks with the US is Washington’s overt and covert support for the governments and groups that directly strengthen terrorism.
Iran’s mistrust of the US is based on Washington’s frequent breaches, double-standards and conflicting interests with the Islamic Revolution, Shamkhani added.
Last week, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei also emphasized that Iran’s deep mistrust of the US arises from rationale and experience, dismissing the idea of interaction between Tehran and Washington as a ploy to infiltrate into Iran and impair its regional clout.
Ayatollah Khamenei also warned that opening the doors for negotiation with the US will not only prepare the ground for their “overt and covert infiltration”, but also impede the country’s progress.
