Palestinian Official Targeted in Ain Al-Hilweh Grenade Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A grenade exploded early on Monday on the roof of a Palestinian security official in the southern Lebanon refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, state media reported.

The National News Agency said Nasser Daoud, the targeted official, was sleeping inside his house when a grenade thrown by an unknown assailant exploded on his roof, the Daily Star reported.

Daoud wasn't injured in the blast.

The Lebanese Army last week detained an alleged Daesh (ISIL) emir in Ain al-Hilweh after fighting between extremists and the Fatah movement had rocked the Palestinian refugee camp.

Even though calm has been restored since, tensions are still palpable.

In July, Palestinian factions in the camp and Lebanese authorities established an agreement to entice fugitives hiding in Ain al-Hilweh to hand themselves in. More than 60 fugitives hiding in the camp have surrendered to Army Intelligence over the past two months.

The fugitives include supporters of radical cleric Ahmad al-Assir, as well as those accused of belonging to terrorist groups.
