Iran Discusses Aleppo Situation with Syria, Russia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister talked to his Syrian and Russian counterparts on telephone to coordinate efforts to provide immediate humanitarian aids for Syrian people in the city of Aleppo, hardly struck by war and in dire need of aid supplies.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari had separate telephone conversations with his Syrian and Russian counterparts, Faisal Mekdad and Mikhail Bogdanov, on Monday.

In his talks, the Iranian diplomat discussed the latest developments in Syria following the collapse of a recent ceasefire, particularly the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo.

The whole three parties also deplored the alarming crisis in Aleppo, calling for serious efforts to deliver humanitarian aids to people in the crisis-hit areas.

Iran has always insisted that the ongoing war in Syria, now into its sixth year, has no military solution, and that the future of Syria must be decided by its own people.

The Arab country has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
