Syrian Palestinians in Lebanon Protest against UNRWA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Palestinians refugees from Syria Tuesday rallied outside UNRWA's office in the refugee camp of Beddawi near the north Lebanon city of Tripoli, calling for an increase in aid among other demands.

The state-run National News Agency said that dozens of Palestinian protesters, who resided at the camp after they fled war-torn Syria, demanded the agency to set up an inclusive emergency plan, the Daily Star reported.

They rejected the agency's postponement of September assistance payments to October.

UNRWA officially estimates that there are 42,500 Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon, however, Palestinian factions place the number at closer to 32,000.

UNRWA is the UN agency tasked with providing services to Palestinian refugees.

Palestinians living in Lebanon's 12 refugee camps have been protesting UNRWA's austerity policies since January.
