Speaker Appeals for More Iranian Support for People of Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s Parliament Speaker Yahya Ali al-Raee in a letter to his Iranian counterpart called on the Islamic Republic to provide more support for the people of Yemen and help find a way to end the Saudi-led invasion of the Arab country.

In his letter to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday, the Yemeni speaker asked for Iran’s help to end the Saudi-led military attacks on people of Yemen and end a siege that the aggressors have laid to the Arab country.

The military strikes continue to kill children, women and civilians in Yemen and destroy the country’s infrastructures, al-Raee noted.

He also deplored the attempts by certain Arab states and other world countries to question the legitimacy of Yemen’s parliament, which he said has been formed in compliance with the constitution.

In mid-August, Yemeni representatives convened the country’s parliament in capital Sana’a for the first time in close to two years.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to media reports, more than 8,000 Yemenis, most of them civilians, have been killed in the Saudi-led aggression so far.
