Iran on Verge of Early AFC U-19 Championship Elimination
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s hopes of making the knockout stages of the AFC U-19 Championship Bahrain 2016 suffered a dent as the team failed to defeat Japan on Monday.
Iran, who had been held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar in its opener, played out a goalless draw against Japan at Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.
Both teams were denied by the woodwork on several occasions, with Iran seeing an early effort bounce off the line and out, but it was a night of frustration for the two teams as they cancelled each other out.
Elsewhere, Qatar edged past Yemen 1-0 in Group C.
The result means Qatar joins Japan at the top of the group on four points, with Iran on two and Yemen eliminated with no points from two games.
Iran will play Yemen on Thursday, while Japan face Qatar.
