Attack in Iraq's Kirkuk Over, 74 Daesh Fighters Killed: Governor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi security forces Monday ended an attack by Daesh (ISIL) in Kirkuk city, killing at least 74 terrorists in three days of clashes, the provincial governor said.

"The attack is over and life has returned to normal," Najmeddin Karim, the governor of Kirkuk province, told AFP.

"The security forces have killed more than 74 Daesh terrorists and detained several others, including their leader."

Dozens of terrorists targeted four police stations and Kurdish security offices in Kirkuk, spreading themselves out through several residential neighborhoods on Friday.

The militants killed 13 workers, including four Iranians, at a power plant north of Kirkuk, and a local television reporter was killed by a sniper in the city.

Kirkuk has been attacked before by Daesh terrorists. Previous attacks have been seen as attempts by Daesh to either capture the city or divert Kurdish troops from the fight in Mosul.
