Lavrov: US Falls Under 'Artificial Impression' of Russian Meddling in Elections

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Russian top diplomat slammed the "artificial impression" which is being created in the United States about Moscow's alleged involvement in the presidential elections.

The United States falls under the false impression that Russia interferes in US elections, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.

"I will not comment on the prospects of the elections in the United States. After all, an artificial impression is already being created among at least the US public that Russia is actively involved in these processes," Lavrov said at an Association of European Businesses briefing in Moscow, Sputnik News reported.

The US government has formally accused Russia of launching a hacking campaign to “interfere with the US election process.”

The Democratic US presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign has claimed the Kremlin is trying to help Republican Donald Trump win the White House on Nov. 8.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied the charges, insisting that all sides in the US presidential campaign misuse rhetoric about Russia for their own purposes.
