Tehran, Sarajevo Urge Stronger Trade Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by the presidents of the two countries, stressed the need for plans to enhance bilateral economic relations besides efforts to boost political, academic and cultural interaction.

Addressing a joint meeting of high-ranking officials from Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for a road map to sustainable and developing economic and trade ties between the two nations.

“We should try to promote trade and economic ties and cooperation between private sectors of the two countries, and, in addition, prepare the ground for the expansion of ties in the scientific, cultural and tourism spheres,” President Rouhani added.

For his part, President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic highlighted the European country’s plans to stimulate economic and financial relations with Iran.

He also said that Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina can be each other’s gateway to the European and Asian markets.

Izetbegović further called for the removal of obstacles to private sectors’ activities and facilitation of financial transactions between the two countries.

There has been growing enthusiasm for closer ties with Iran after coming into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in January, a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

President Rouhani has frequently stressed that Tehran welcomes warmer ties with European countries, noting that such cooperation will greatly contribute to the settlement of regional and international issues.
