Syrian Forces Repel Massive Attack by Terrorists to Break Siege on Aleppo

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops and allied forces managed to repel a large-scale offensive carried out by thousands of foreign-backed terrorists and suicide bombers to break the government forces’ siege on the northern city of Aleppo.

According to Tasnim dispatches, heavy clashes erupted near Aleppo on Friday as the terror groups announced a massive attack to break the government’s nearly two-month siege of the rebel-held neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo.

The Syrian forces managed to thwart the attack, which had mounted on several fronts, and inflict heavy casualties on the terrorists.

The fierce fighting lasted about 10 hours in the western areas of Aleppo, including the 1070 building projects.

“The Syrian army and its allies are in control over the ground and armed groups were not able to change the map,” the army said in a statement on Friday. “Fighting is still ongoing but the intensity dropped.”

Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture the strategic city from the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
