Iranian Oil Firm’s Copter Crashes in Caspian Sea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A helicopter leased by an Iranian oil company crashed in the Caspian Sea shortly after take-off from an offshore platform with five people on board.

The helicopter flew to Amir-Kabir platform in the Caspian Sea, north of Iran, in the early hours of Sunday to rescue an employee working for the Khazar Oil Company who had a heart attack.

After picking up the individual, the helicopter began to fly back to shore, but crashed shortly after take-off due to an unknown reason, according to officials.

The body of one of the passengers has been retrieved, while the four others remain unaccounted for.

Amir-Kabir is a semi-submersible drilling rig in the Caspian Sea, known as the first Iranian facility for the extraction of oil and gas from the giant lake.
