Afghan Forces Repel Taliban Attack on Security Checkpoint, Kill 5 Militants

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Afghan security forces eliminated five Taliban militants that attacked a security checkpoint in eastern Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's Provincial Police Chief Sayed Gul Aqa Rohani said at least six more militants have been injured in the assault on a checkpoint in Nangarhar province Sunday.

No officers were wounded in the attack, Sputnik reported.

Afghanistan is suffering from the activity of the Taliban, a militant group formed in the 1990s.

The Taliban has boosted its operations in Afghanistan after NATO ended its International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in December 2014.
