Iran Inaugurates Phases 17, 18 of South Pars Gas Field

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The 17th and 18th phases of Iran’s giant South Pars Gas Field in the southwestern port city of Asalouyeh came into operation on Sunday.

The two phases of the gas field were inaugurated in a ceremony in the energy hub of Asalouyeh on Sunday with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in attendance.

According to the executive manager of the project to develop the gas field, the construction of the phases began in 2007 and 99.5 percent of the work was carried out by Iranian contractors.

The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
