UK Pushing US to Honor JCPOA: Ex-Secretary

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Former British foreign secretary Jack Straw assured Iran of the attempts the politicians in his country are making to impel the US administration to preserve the achievements of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Tuesday, Straw voiced the British government’s support for the JCPOA, the nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He also noted that British politicians are pushing the US authorities to maintain the achievements of the multilateral nuclear agreement.

Zarif and Straw also discussed the regional developments, including the situation in Yemen and Bahrain.

Straw was among the dignitaries attending a conference on regional security in Tehran.

On Monday, more than 200 politicians and analysts from Iran and abroad took part in the conference on "Regional Security in West Asia: Emerging Trends and Challenges".

The subjects discussed in the conference included the role of Iran and the other regional and trans-regional players in the Middle East security arrangements, the links between economic progress and regional security, collective defense and security cooperation, as well as the axis of resistance’s role in West Asia security.
