Defense Minister Vows Severe Response to Ahvaz Terror Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Defense minister of Iran warned those behind a recent terrorist attack on a military parade in the city of Ahvaz that they will have to face Iran’s severe reaction.

In comments on Sunday, Brigadier General Amir Hatami expressed condolences over deaths of civilians and military forces in the September 22 terrorist attack in the southwestern city.

Deploring attempts to create rift and upset security in Iran, Hatami said the terrorists should be expecting “a harsh and surprising response” as a revenge for the martyrdom of Iranians in Ahvaz.

He added that the terrorist attack highlights the necessity for growing defense capabilities and debunks the US notion that Iran does not require defense weapons.

During the military parade in Ahvaz on Saturday morning, Takfiri militants opened fired on military officials and ordinary people in the event. At least 25 people have died and 60 others injured in the terrorist attack.

A senior spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces said four terrorists were involved in the attack, noting that they had hidden their rifles in the parade venue beforehand.

According to media reports, the Al-Ahvaziya terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
