Hanachi Elected Tehran Mayor


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The City Council of Tehran elected Pirooz Hanachi as the new mayor of the metropolis by a narrow margin on Tuesday.

In the 100th session of the City Council of Tehran on Tuesday morning, Hanachi was chosen as the mayor of the Iranian capital city by garnering 11 votes of the 21 councilors.

The other candidate, Abbas Akhoundi, won 10 votes.

Hanachi, 54, is a graduate in architecture and restoration of urban constructions. He has previously served in posts in Tehran Municipality, Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, and University of Tehran’s Faculty of Fine Arts.
