Farhad Majidi Replaces Winfried Schaefer as Esteghlal Interim Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Esteghlal football club has appointed Farhad Majidi as head coach of the team until the end of the season.

Majidi, 43, replaced Winfried Schaefer in the club following the poor results in Iran Professional League and AFC Champions League.

“In the wake of recent defeats in Iran Professional League and also not using the club’s facilities, Winfried and his son Sascha Oliver Schaefer have been suspended from all activities until the end of the season. Esteghlal will start bilateral negotiations with Schaefer at the end of the season,” Esteghlal made an announcement on Monday.

“There has been growing dissatisfaction among the Esteghlal’s fans, officials and experts and the board of directors appointed Farhad Majidi as the team’s interim coach until the end of the season."

“The club’s management is doing its best to repair the current season’s problems for the upcoming season and without a doubt getting the best results in the remaining matches will pave the way for the next season. We make apology to Esteghlal fans following the team’s condition but please don’t leave us alone,” it reads.

The Iranian giant almost missed the chance of winning Iran Professional League (IPL) title after failing to beat Padideh Saturday night.
