Crushing Response Awaits Those Threatening Iran’s Security: Top General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri highlighted the country’s military preparedness to counter foreign threats and said the Islamic Republic will give a crushing response to any move threatening the country’s security.

During a visit to the border unit of Taybad in northeastern Iran on Wednesday, Major General Baqeri attended a gathering of Sunni and Shiite clerics as well as border guards from various forces, including the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the Army and the Basij (mobilization).

“Today, our country, with the (help) of the people and revolutionary clerics from both Sunnis and Shiites and the country’s Armed Forces…, are neutralizing any enemy conspiracies against the lasting security of this land,” he said.

“Undoubtedly, a crushing response awaits those who intend to harm the security of the country and its borders,” the top general added.

In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

However, Iran is considered by many experts as the “island of stability” in a region which faces many security challenges.

In August 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the strong security in Iran despite crises and insecurity in the region.

“Thank God and through the appreciated efforts and endeavors of the military and security forces, the country enjoys a strong security shield while regional countries are filled with incidents and insecurity,” the Leader said.
