Iran Registers First Win at FIBA World Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Samad Nikkhah Bahrami shot the lights out with 5-of-6 shooting from the outside totaling 21 points to lead Iran to a 71-62 win over Angola to record its first win in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.

In the match held in Beijing’s Wukesong Sport Center, Carlos Morais led Angola with 17 points.

Iran will face its Asian rival the Philippines in 17th–32nd Classification on Sunday in Group N.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup is the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams.

The tournament will also act as qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics, which will take the top two teams from each of the Americas and Europe, and the top team from each of Africa, Asia and Oceania, alongside the tournament's host Japan.
