Shahram Mahmoudi Gets Iran Volleyball Call-Up


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Shahram Mahmoudi has been invited to Iran national volleyball team for the 2020 Men's Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament.

He will replace Amir Ghafour who has missed the competition due to back pain.

Mahmoudi had announced his retirement from international duty after the 2016 Olympic Games due to injury.

Italian club Lube Civitanova announced that Ghafour will have to undergo a forced stop. The athlete is affected by the right isthmic spondylolysis of L5 from functional overload and the injury will keep the iconic player out six to eight weeks.

Iran volleyball has been drawn in Pool A of Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament along with China, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan.

The competition will be held at Jiangmen Sports Center Gymnasium, China from January 7 to 12, 2020 and the champion will secure its place at the Tokyo 2020.
