Coronavirus Daily Deaths Drop to 7-Month Low in Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The daily death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has declined to the lowest rate in more than seven months, the Health Ministry said.

Providing the latest statistics for the coronavirus infection, Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Sunday that the pandemic has claimed only 71 lives over the past 24 hours, the lowest fatalities since early June 2020.

The overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 56,171, she added.

The spokeswoman also noted that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 1,286,000 after the detection of 5,968 new cases since yesterday.

Nearly 1,075,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,664 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She also noted that more than 8.15 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 90 million and the death toll has exceeded 1.93 million.
