Coronavirus Cases in Iran Close to 1.3 Million


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 1,300,000, the Health Ministry said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Tuesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has risen to 1,299,022 after the detection of 6,408 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 683 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,507 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions, Lari noted.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran has reached 56,360, she said, noting that the disease has taken the lives of 98 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 1,088,456 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Lari also noted that more than 8.26 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 91 million and the death toll is close to 2 million.
