Iranian Diplomat Backs Intra-Afghan Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian special envoy described intra-Afghan negotiations as the best approach to the settlement of the crisis in Afghanistan.

The Iranian foreign minister's special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, held separate telephone conversations with his Russian and German counterparts on Monday.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized in the conversations that intra-Afghan negotiations would be the most appropriate way to end the crisis in Afghanistan and relieve its people's pains.

He also stressed the need to reduce violence in Afghanistan and enhance collaboration among its friends in establishing sustainable peace through diplomatic solutions, expressing Tehran's preparedness for assistance in this regard.

In another telephone conversation on Monday, Taherian discussed various issues with Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

The two sides conferred on the latest developments in Afghanistan, bilateral relations between Tehran and Kabul, and the Afghan peace process.
