Resistance Forces’ Drone Attack Targets Iraqi Airbase Hosting US Troops

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An airbase hosting US troops in Iraq has been targeted in a drone attack launched by resistance forces, media reported.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it targeted al-Harir airbase in northern Iraq with two drones on Wednesday.

The group said the move was a response to US backing for Israel during the onslaught against the people of Gaza, Press TV reported.

On Wednesday evening, the sirens sounded at the US embassy, according to several people in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone that houses the embassy.

But there were no reports of casualties.

Meanwhile, Yemeni armed forces said they have shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone with a surface-to-air missile over the country’s territorial waters.

They said that the drone was conducting hostile activities in Yemen’s airspace within the framework of US military support for Israel.

Anti-Israel and anti-US sentiments are running high across the region over Washington’s firm support for the Israeli onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 10,569 people, including 4,324 children.

Another 26,475 people have been wounded as well. At least 2,550 individuals are reported missing, including at least 2,550 children, who may have died or been trapped under the rubble waiting to be rescued.

As a result, resistance movements across the region have recently targeted Israeli and US positions with drones and missiles.

The Israeli regime launched the war after Gaza's resistance groups conducted Operation al-Aqsa Storm, their biggest operation against the occupying entity in years.

Since the onset of the war, the United States has backed Israel's ferocious attacks on the Palestinian territory as a means of "self-defense."

Late last month, Washington vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution that called on the occupying regime to cease its war.

Meanwhile, the Israeli regime carried out another airstrike on Syria despite repeated warnings from the government in Damascus against such attacks.

The Syrian military said Israel’s new strike came from the direction of Ba’albek in Lebanon, targeting some military positions in the country’s south. It added that the attack only caused some material damage.

Israel conducted a number of airstrikes on Syria last month, putting the country’s two main airports in Damascus and Aleppo out of service several times.

Damascus has frequently warned against such attacks, calling on the United Nations and its Security Council to put an end to them. It says the Israeli attacks are against international law and violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
