Tehran, Baghdad Stress Launching Joint Digital Economy Free Zone

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pointing to Iran's progress in various fields of communications and information technology, the minister of communications and information technology voiced the country’s readiness for establishing closer cooperation with Iraq in the field of electronic commerce.

Speaking in a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairy in Baghdad on Monday, Issa Zarepour said Iran is ready to share its experiences and technical know-how grained in various ICT sectors with neighboring Iraq.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed sharing the technical know-how and knowledge of constructing and launching satellite images in the space sector and cooperating to set up joint digital economy free zones.

In the contemporary world, a country that lacks digital and cyber facilities, such as private indigenized platforms, cannot progress in this field, so the two countries should establish very close cooperation and interaction with each other to take giant strides in this sector, Zarepour added.

The Iraqi minister of trade, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the high capabilities and progress gained by Iran in the field of e-commerce and modern financial technologies and noted that his country is interested in taking advantage of the high capacities of Iran for the development of electronic commerce in Iraq.
