Transit of Goods via Iran to Exceed 12 Million Tons in 3 Months: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization said that the volume of cargo transit through the country will surpass 12 million tons in the coming three months.

Pointing to the transit performance of the country, Dariush Amani said with the effective measures taken by the minister of roads and urban development that led to holding expert-level meetings with neighboring states and foreign delegations, Iran’s cargo transit volume has registered a 33 percent growth.

More than 1.4 million tons of transit goods were transported via Iranian land in the eighth month of the current Iranian calendar year (October 22- November 22), showing the maximum volume of goods transited monthly through the country's territory, he added.

The transit of goods via Iranian land in November 2023 registered a 92 percent hike compared to the same period last year, he stated.

It is predicted that 12 million tons of goods will be transited through the country within the next three months, Amani stated.

Given the emphasis on sea-based development in the country, the transit volume of goods via the land and territory of the country will increase significantly, the deputy roads minister added.
