Iranian Navy Confirms Seizure of US Oil Tanker in Sea of Oman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian Navy has officially confirmed judicially sanctioned seizure of a US oil tanker in the Sea of Oman, according the Navy's public relations.

Renaming itself as the ST Nicolas , the vessel was seized on Friday by the Iranian Army's Strategic Navy. This action comes in retaliation for the theft of Iranian oil by the US tanker back in May.

The oil tanker in question had illicitly taken a cargo of Iranian oil under the guidance of the United States and transported it to American ports.

The Strategic Navy of the Iranian Army executed the seizure in the Sea of Oman with judicial approval and confirmation from the Ports and Shipping Organization. The tanker is presently being transferred to Iranian ports for delivery to judicial authorities.

Sky News Arabia previously reported, citing the UK Maritime Trade Operations Organization, "We have received a report about an incident in the 50 nautical miles east of the coast of Oman."

Omani authorities are investigating the security incident off the coast of Oman, as confirmed by the UK Maritime Trade Operations Organization.
