Iran to Open Region’s Biggest Radiopharmaceutical Center

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The largest radiopharmaceutical center across the region will be inaugurated in Iran, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said.

Speaking at a televised interview on Tuesday night, Eslami said the region’s biggest radiopharmaceutical center will be established in Iran in the next Iranian calendar year, which will begin on March 20.

He noted that as many as 50 homegrown radiopharmaceuticals are currently administered to patients in the country, adding that some 20 other radiopharmaceuticals are in the clinical research phase.

He also unveiled plans to inaugurate 50 clinics across the country that use plasma technology for the treatment of malignant wounds.

In December 2023, Iran opened two plasma-stimulated wound healing clinics.

The plasma technologies developed by the AEOI have been employed for the treatment of cancers and cardiac diseases in cooperation with medical universities.

In December 2022, the AEOI chief said Iran aims to become a global hub for manufacturing deuterium drugs.

The AEOI launched a second phase of its deuterium production unit in the Arak Heavy Water Reactor Facility in central Iran in April 2021.
