Tehran, Islamabad Agree to Promote Bilateral Trade Ties, Customs Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The heads of Iran and Pakistan’s customs agreed to remove customs barriers with the aim of facilitating and promoting bilateral trade.

Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mohammad Rezvanifar met Member of Federal Board of Revenue and General Manager of Pakistan Customs Farid Iqbal in Islamabad for talks aimed at facilitating and promoting trade and removing the customs barriers.

The two sides agreed on the formulation of a deal with 15 articles to increase the trade and economic relations between Tehran and Islamabad.

The electronic exchange of data, presentation of customs facilities to boost the bartering of goods at Iran’s Chabahar Free Zone and easing the possibility of transiting Iranian trucks to Pakistan territory were among the main topics agreed between customs officials of Iran and Pakistan, IRNA reported.

The need for Pakistani companies to cooperate with the Iranian transport fleet, increasing the capacity to admit trucks at the common customs borders, especially on the Pakistani side and emphasizing the reduction of customs clearance costs, and the development of TIR Carnet at the common border of the two countries in Rimdan and Pishin border crossings were some of the other topics discussed between the two sides, the report added.
