Bahrain’s Interior Ministry Lodge Complaint against Main Opposition Party

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Interior Ministry of Bahrain announced on Tuesday that it has filed a lawsuit against the opposition group al-Wefaq National Islamic Society over criminal allegations.

According to the Manama Post, the lawsuit is based on certain content published by al-Wefaq on its website and Twitter account that the ministry alleged to be instances of criminal offense.

Bahrain News Agency also quoted the director general of Bahrain’s Counter-Corruption Department as saying that al-Wefaq Society is accused of public provocation into anti-government hatred, and deliberate publication of false news which undermine national peace and security.

The report said that the opposition group is also accused of inviting people to stage illegal demonstrations and insulting the interior ministry and a foreign country.

The Al Khalifa regime is pressing ahead with its crackdown on opposition, after it arrested Sheikh Salman, the secretary general of al-Wefaq, on December 27, 2014.

The tiny Persian Gulf island has been the scene of an ongoing suppression of protesters who demand the release of opposition figures.

The arrests are part of the Al Khalifah regime’s brutal suppression of anti-regime protesters since 2011. Scores of people have been killed and thousands more wounded during the crackdown.
