Regional Security A Common Responsibility: Iran’s Intelligence Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian intelligence minister stressed on Sunday that security in the region will better prevail through concerted action by the intelligence services of the regional countries.

Speaking in a conference in Tehran on Sunday, Mahmoud Alawi described security as a common responsibility of all countries.

“Cooperation among the region’s intelligence services will better prepare the ground for the establishment of regional interaction,” Alawi explained.

He also highlighted the major role the international organizations and unions play in coordinating policies among different countries with common interests.

Iranian officials say regional cooperation is a requisite for the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Back in October 2014, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif referred to the complicated situation in the current juncture, and stressed the need for cooperation among the countries of the region for tackling terrorist groups including the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

“Currently, regional countries are facing many challenges which can only be overcome through cooperation and consultations,” he added.
