Russian FM to Leave Iran Nuclear Talks, Rejoin on Tuesday

LAUSANNE (Tasnim) – Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is said to plan to leave negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in Switzerland on Monday and may come back on Tuesday.

While foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany held a plenary meeting in Lausanne on Monday morning in a final push for a preliminary framework accord on Tehran’s nuclear program, Lavrov will leave the Swiss city for Moscow on Monday evening.

According to Tasnim dispatches, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and Germany’s Frank-Walter Steinmeier are also expected to leave Lausanne for their respective capitals on Monday and join the talks again on Tuesday.

The Monday’s ministerial session lasted for roughly one and half hours as the marathon negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program are reaching a climax.

The parties have been working to agree on a preliminary framework accord by the end of March, to be followed by a comprehensive deal by June 30 that includes all technical details.

The long-awaited comprehensive deal aims to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's civilian nuclear activities.
