Bahraini Regime Jails More Citizens on Political Charges

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Bahrain Human Rights Society announced that 35 citizens of the Persian Gulf country received long prison terms in the last week of March.

During that period, the Al Khalifa regime's judicial system sentenced 35 Bahrainis to a total of 276 years in prison on political charges, the human rights organization said in a statement.

81 individuals, including six women and five children, were also arrested across Bahrain, it added.

According to the statement, Bahrain's security forces also stormed 72 houses and severely cracked down on 15 peaceful demonstrations.

Bahrain, a close ally of the United States in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
