20,000 Expatriate Students Studying in Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian science ministry official announced on Monday that there are some 20,000 foreign students currently studying in Iranian universities.

According to the latest statistics, some 19,800 foreign students are currently attending Iranian universities, Director General of Science, Research and Technology Ministry's Non-Iranian Students Department Samad Haj-Jabbari told the Tasnim News Agency.

More than 3100 of them are paying for their education while around 11,000 foreign students were admitted in universities after taking the national entrance exam, he added.

He went on to say that the majority of the students are from nearby countries.

The Science Ministry’s policy is to enhance the admission of foreign students as it increases the ministry’s revenues and also shows the country’s capabilities.
