European Efforts Urged for Ending War on Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian urged European countries, including Germany, to make efforts to bring a halt to the ongoing aggression on Yemen.

"We expect Germany and other European countries to take the necessary measures to stop the attacks on Yemen's people and infrastructures and prepare the ground for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the country and the start of Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue for the formation of a national unity government," Amir Abdollahian said in a Wednesday meeting in Tehran with German State Secretary Markus Ederer.

He described the offensive launched by Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries against Yemen as a strategic mistake that will be of no avail to the aggressors.

Saudi Arabia and its allies started their deadly attacks on Yemen on March 26 in a bid to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The Iranian diplomat regretted that resorting to force and military assaults has been given preference over political solutions in the region.

He underlined that regional issues, including the developments in Yemen, Syria and Bahrain, only have political solutions .

Ederer, for his part, hailed Iran's role in regional developments and the fight against terrorism as important and constructive.

He also emphasized the need for a political solution for the crisis in Yemen and called for dialogue among all Yemeni groups as the only the path towards an end to the current crisis.
