Saudi Arabia to Suffer "Irreversible Defeats" in Yemen War: Iran's DM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said on Thursday that the war waged on Yemen by Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies would lead to irreversible defeats for Riyadh.

Riyadh has waged the military aggression against Yemen with the green light of the United States and Israel, Dehqan said, addressing the Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS).

"Saudi Arabia will not only fail to achieve its illegitimate goals in Yemen, but lay the ground for its own collapse (due to the aggression)," he warned.

Dehqan went on to say that irreversible defeats and a fate similar to that of Saddam Hussein (the former Iraqi dictator) await Riyadh.

Providing financial and logistic supports for Takfiri terrorists in Syria, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and the Caucasus and launching brutal attacks on Yemen and preventing relief and rescue missions in the country would not give Saudi Arabia any credit in the region, the Iranian official stressed.

He further referred to Iran's stance on the crisis in Yemen, saying that Tehran urges an immediate and unconditional cessation of the military intervention, an end to internal conflicts, and the formation of an inclusive government based on Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue.

Saudi Arabia and its allies started their deadly attacks on Yemen on March 26, without a UN mandate, in a bid to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Civilians and Yemeni infrastructure have been the target of the Saudi aggression, which has created huge humanitarian problems in the impoverished country.
