Scores of ISIL Terrorists Killed in Tikrit Since City's Liberation: Iraqi Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraq's Minister of State for Provincial and Legislative Affairs Ahmad al-Jaburi said more than 130 members of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group have been killed in Tikrit since the city was liberated in late March.

Al Sumaria news channel quoted Jaburi as saying that Iraqi security forces continue to detect remnants of the ISIL militants in Tikrit.

The main problem following the recapture of Tikrit is that the terrorists have planted bombs in houses and state buildings, the Iraqi minister stated.

He also called on the Tikrit residents, who fled the city after the ISIL offensive, not to return home until security is restored in all neighborhoods.

On March 31, units of Iraqi government forces, backed by Shiite and Sunni volunteer forces, managed to retake control of Tikrit.

The operation to retake the hometown of former dictator Saddam Hussein had begun on March 2.
