Iraqi Officials Say Have Full Control of Ramadi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The city of Ramadi in Iraq's Anbar province is reportedly under full control of the Iraqi forces as the battle against the ISIL militants continues in other areas in the province.

The situation in Ramadi is under control, Iraq's Interior Ministry Spokesman Saad Maan was quoted as saying by Alforat TV channel.

Also, Abdul Amir al-Khazraji, deputy commander of the Iraqi Golden Corps said his units, in cooperation with the security and local forces, have retaken "full control" of Ramadi.

He said a number of the Golden Corps forces have been stationed at Ramadi’s security sites for protection.

Parts of Anbar province slipped from the government's grasp after the ISIL militants seized the northern city of Mosul last June and proclaimed a caliphate straddling the border between Iraq and Syria.

The efforts to recapture Anbar are intended to build on a victory in the city of Tikrit, which Iraqi security and voluntary forces retook on March 31.

The ISIL started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country's Sunni Arab heartland.

The terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.

Iraqi soldiers, police units, Kurdish forces, Shia volunteers and Sunni tribesmen have been engaged in joint operations to drive the terrorists out of areas they have seized.
