Iran Favors Enhanced Regional Peace via Dialogue: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined Tehran's backing for the establishment of peace in the region through dialogue.

"Iran's goal is the establishment and enhancement of peace in the region through dialogue and peaceful ways," Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said in a meeting with his German counterpart Markus Ederer in Tehran.

The Iranian diplomat also noted that the expansion of ties between Tehran and Berlin will contribute to regional stability and improve the situation in the region.

For his part, Ederer highlighted the important role Iran plays in the promotion of peace and stability in the region, and called for stronger political, economic and cultural relations between Iran and Germany.

He also voiced Berlin’s call for the settlement of regional conflicts through peaceful approaches.

The two diplomats also discussed the latest developments in the course of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Iran and the six powers are in talks to reach a lasting accord on Tehran's peaceful nuclear program. In the latest round of talks on April 2, they reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.

The framework provides a series of solutions that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.

Tehran and the sextet plan to resume the negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna on April 21.
