Iran Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Saturday terrorist attacks in the Afghan city of Jalalabad that killed tens of people and injured more than 100 others.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Sunday expressed deep sympathy for the killing of innocent Afghan people in the deadly suicide bombings.

“Terrorism, extremism and jeopardizing lives of innocent people is unjustifiable and rejected,” she stressed.

The spokeswoman also reiterated the call for concerted action by the regional countries and the international community in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Afkham also highlighted the necessity for unity among all ethnic groups in a bid to counter violence and extremism.

“Acts of terrorism are aimed at the spread of violence and instability in Afghanistan,” she warned.

At least 33 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a series of attacks in Jalalabad city in the eastern Nangarhar province.

The first attack occurred when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive near the gate of the New Kabul Bank branch. An hour later, another explosion happened near the Da Afghanistan Bank branch just 60 meters away from the first attack. And the third attack occurred outside a shrine, but no one was injured.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attacks.
